Study Visits MMSU

1. Study Visit to Venice Biennial in May 2017
Sabina Salamon visited Venice Biennale between 10th and 13th May of 2017. She visited Arsenale and Giardini locations and she met with several colleagues from the region with whom she discussed the exhibitions and parallel programs of the Biennale. She also contacted Branka Benčić, curator of the Croatian pavilion that dealt with the topic of migration, especially in regard to the work by Tina Gverović.

 

2. Study Visit to Venice Biennial in November 2017
Ksenija Orelj, Nataša Šuković & Marina Tkalčić visited Venice Biennale between 7th and 8th of November 2017. They went to several pavilions and to the Arsenale where they studied the works dealing with migrations and legal issues of migrants in the EU.

 

3. Study visit to Manifesta Biennial in October 2018
Ksenija Orelj, Sabina Salamon & Marina Tkalčić travelled to Palermo and visited Manifesta between 2nd & 8th of October 2018. The curators visited different locations of Manifesta & several parallel programs, especially the projects dealing with migration processes.

 

4. Study visit to Riga, The 4th Open Fields conference on Artistic Research, Science and Technologies and RIXC Art Science Festival 2019, in July 2019
Marina Tkalčić, Ivana Meštrov, Katerina Jovanović had a study visit to Riga between 3rd of July and 7th of July 2019, instead of Ars Electronica Study visit, due to the collision between the dates of the festival and the work flow in the MMSU. They visited the conference of the RISK CHANGE partner, RIXC, Un/Green: NaturallyArtificialIntelligences in the Center for New Media Culture. They participated at the symposium ECODATA Thematic Panel andFeatured Project and went to the exhibition Un/Green in the National Museum.

 

5. Study visit to London in November 2019, instead of visiting Kinetica Artfair 
During the study visit to London Marina Tkalčić & Ksenija Orelj visited several exhibitions dealing with (post)-colonial topics (V&A Museum, Whitechapel gallery…). They went to London between 24th and 28th of November. They also met Alicja Rogalska & Simon Farid, the artists who participated at the previous RISK CHANGE exhibitions and talked with them about the possibilities of their residency in Rijeka in the context of the RC project. Orelj & Tkalčić also shared the RC publications with them. The travel took place instead of visiting Kinetica Artfair in London which hasn’t been organized throughout 2018 and 2019, while duration of the Risk Change.

 

6. Study visit to Berlin in December 2019, instead of visiting Transmediale/Berlin Biennial
Marina Tkalčić went to Berlin during her study visit between 27of December 2019 and 2nd of January 2020. Due to the museum’s exhibition program which collided with the date of opening the Documenta 14, Tkalčić visited the exhibitions in Berlin by Rajkamal Kahlon, Are My Hands Clean? in the Galerie Wedding – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst & the exhibition by Lawrence Abu Hamdan in the Museum fur Gegenwart, both dealing with the current socio-political issues. She met the artist Vangjush Vellahu because of the activities for his residency in Rijeka in 2020 (part of the Risk Change project). With the artist Fotini Gouseti, M. Tkalčić discussed the topics of her residency in Rijeka in 2020 (also part of the RC project) and they agreed on the duration of her residency in Rijeka.
