Saša Bezjak in Arven Šakti Kralj Szomi: Glej, ne glej
23. 6. – 16. 7. 2016
ACE KIBLA / KiBela, Ulica Kneza Koclja 9, Maribor
The opening of the exhibition titled Glej, ne glej / Look, don’t look of the artistic duo Sasha v. Shakti, was held on Thursday, 23 June in MMC Kibla, Kibela Space for art, at 8 p. m. The exhibition opening was followed by a perfomance / recital / vocal manipulation by Aphra Tesla, who was presenting Singapur, a poetry collection by Vida Pelc.
Artists Saša Bezjak and Arven Šakti Kralj Szomi present their joint work as a tandem: Sasha v. Shakti. At first sight, their work may appear quite divergent, since Saša is engaged in painting, sculpting, and artistic handicraft works, while Šakti focuses mostly on photographic esthetics. As a team, they take on projects that allow them to install their special combinations of works into particular gallery spaces.
The project Look / Don’t look is the first joint presentation of this artistic duo; a sensitive subject, which is often a means of manipulation in the contemporary consumer society, is placed under scrutiny. Where are the limits of social and commercial truths and addresses – and how far do they go?
Both artists have a MA degree from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. They have been collaborating as artists since 2015. Constructive and productive dialogs, along with the numerousness of ideas and matching, almost identical perspectives and even life circumstances have encouraged them, or, as they put it themselves, called upon them, to embark on a joint artistic project.
