Connective is an interactive sound installation of six electrical instruments / modular synthesizers designed for production, processing and emission of sound. Each individual modular synthesizer is composed of ten multi-functional modules, including a receiver, a transmitter, a sampler and a keyboard. Modular synthesizers feature a hybrid design that enables and combines usage of analogue and digital technique of sound synthesis. Electrical instruments, made specifically for this project, enable performers to manipulate and re-emit sound captured through radio receivers.

Connective captures the radio frequency spectrum as its source of sound and thus material for further sound processing. It simultaneously treats it as a source of data which affects the functioning of modular synthesizer’s individual components. Connective joins its participants into an interferential situation, dependent upon relations between different sound structures created, in turn, by individual participant’s modulation of radio input, responsiveness to other performers and selection of transmission frequency.

With open procedures of material and media transformation, the participatory event Connective comments on its relation towards commercial culture program and commodification of public goods through deconstruction of the privileged discourse. In this way it creates dissensus through a new frequency space, within which various signals flow into a temporarily integrated sound-spatial corporeality-circuit. Connective is a system providing a cooperative basis for the scrutiny of existing collective and individual relationships within social communication systems, for creation of temporary communities and exploration of possible transmission technology transformation.

Staš Vrenko (1991) born in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, where he is continuing his master studies at the Sculpture Department. His interdisciplinary artistic practice combines exploration of various artistic fields with process orientated research, uncovering many different technological and medium- related specifics of the material he is working with, while focusing on innovative and original approaches in various aspects of sound, sound design, field recording, kineticism and segments of performative arts.

Performing artists:

Jaka Berger – Brgs is one of the most driven and well versed drummers and percussionists on Slovenia’s music scene over the past ten years. His debut, a free jazz record dubbed Bass Trio, made in collaboration with Achille Succi and Samo Šalamon, was released in 2006. He was a member of the percussion band StrojMachine, performing also with Katice and the legendary and now revived Borghesia, while today he is a permanent member of Ludovik Material and Darla Smoking. Together with Marko Karlovčec he formed the Radical Improvisation Duo, while he explores the more noisier sonic experiences alongside Vitja Balžalorsky as part of the project The B. Bees. He composes solo electro-acoustic pieces through sound layering and field recording modulation.

Blaž Božič – Boško works mostly in the fields of sound/music and literary arts. As a musician, he is engaged as a guitarist for nevemnevem, the man behind the experimental breakcore-noise-spoken word project SsmKOSK, DJ Pizdoglavec (Cunthead in English), and a member of the Nikrmana prasila koynska DJ Team.

Aleš Hieng – Zergon is a DJ, producer of electronic music and sound artist who also works in the field of audiovisual performances and in the vast field of DIY electronics. His focus is on club music as well as sonic and audiovisual experimentations. His sounds range from deep house and techno to idm, noise and abstract drone music. He is a member of the Synaptic Crew since 2003, performing regular sets and live acts and DJ-ing in clubs, galleries, and concert halls home and abroad.

KIKIRIKI is a one-woman-band noise project by Nina Farič. She creates experimental noise music by using various electronics, machines and gadgets, sound synthesizers, home-built micro theremins, guitars, voice, etc. She has performed in over a hundred festivals, solo concerts and radio shows both home and internationally.

Klemen Šali – Mono Scarves began creating experimental music in 2011, with his debut appearance on the scene as part of the Mariboring festival in 2014. He collaborates regularly with the other half of Maribor’s active noise scene – Kikiriki, their EP released in September 2016 under the Zvočni Prepihi (Sound Draughts) label, followed by Shadow tent in 2017 (Debila Records). In 2015 he forms T_Bill_issy together with Ljubljana-based poet Dejan Koban. Mono Scarves has released two solo albums this year, Things that make me happy (Debila Records), and Spalnik (self-published).

Samo Pavlica – Linč creates sound for live concerts and band recordings, works at Radio Študent (Ljubljana) as a sound technician, and is a member of several bands (nevemnevem, Akami, Menendes Brothers).
