Music cycle TOMORROW: Alja Petric feat. Vasko Atanasovski
10. 10. 2018
X-OP / KiBela, Ulica kneza Koclja 9, Maribor

Alja Petric (vocals, gongs, Himalayan bowls, crystal bowls, flutes, drums, rattles, bells …) and Vasko Atanasovski (saxophones, flutes)

Zven trenutka / Sound of the Moment is a performance in which the artist Alja Petric explores the basic components of music: sound and silence. In this project, she combined many years of researching acoustic therapeutic instruments and vocal art. (Od) Zven trenutka is a project expansion and upgrade in which a guest musician joins the artist on stage and “resonates” with her story as a response to her compositions.

The core of the expression is a composition of sound textures, which the musician strings with a looper and then spontaneously intertwines in dialogue with the guest. Musical ambiances are created in both the beginning and end of the musical phrase. The time frame of the composition and, after all, the sense of time are seemingly lost. It is the alchemy of two musical worlds, in which sound-instrumental-vocal compositions are intuitively created based on the subtlety of sound and musical expression’s creativity.

(OD) Zven trenutka / The Sound of the Moment in its constellation transfers from moments in which only the most subtle minimalist musical elements that sound like an echo of silence are expressed, to uproarious abstract climaxes created by the sound of gongs, drums, and atonal miniatures. In the next moment, they transform into structured melodic lines, strung in a well-defined harmonic sequence.

It is a unique experimental performance of improvised music, created spontaneously in a dialogue between two musicians.

After graduating in architecture (2012), Alja Petric, a singer born in Prekmurje, focused her research on the art of music, voice, and sound frequencies and their impact on humans. She studies jazz singing at the Carinthian Regional Conservatory in Klagenfurt, is self-employed in culture, and a singing mentor at the B.A.S.E. music school in Ljubljana. She is recognizable as a singer in the band Duo Ponte, in which she has been collaborating with Mag. guitars by Damjan Stanišić, Master of Guitar. Her musical research ranges from the interpretation of diverse cultures’ musical traditions to projects of setting poetry into music, to jazz, and contemporary experimental sound performances. In the latter, she combined her many years of research into ancient therapeutic instruments and vocal art. Last year, she presented the performance Zven trenutka; this year, the project is expanding and connecting with guest artists. A new musical tandem with the singer, composer, and producer JUNEsHELEN was formed under the name Zvočne krajine – Spevi & Arije Sound landscapes -Poems and Arias.
