Promotion of the Risk Change research book on migrations in Zagreb

MMSU team (Ksenija Orelj, Sabina Salamon and Marina Tkalčić) presented Risk Change research book Between Mobility, Control and Social Transformation published as a closure of a 4-year project Risk Change. The book was presented in Zagreb, within the programme Booksa in the park.

The book was published in March 2020 as the epilogue of the four-year art-interdisciplinary project Risk Change with a focus on migration, a topic that is flooding the media columns these days. Risk Change is a project that through numerous international exhibition, residential, discursive, workshop and publishing activities addressed topics from the spectrum of cultural studies on the (in) hospitality of today’s Europe and artistic satire of the social landscape whose main characteristics are the myth of superiority, imperial history, purity, control and fear of the other and the unknown.

In 336 pages and in a dozen texts written in English, from the fields of anthropology, social psychology, artistic and curatorial practices, the book brings topics on mobility in the 21st century. It is divided into three chapters with significant titles: Foreigner, Refugee, Citizen, Tourist – Europe as a Space of Inhospitality, then Along the Roads of Multiculturalism. Towards Spatial Detachment – Claustrphobia of Modern Cities and Do the Balkans Belong to Europe? – The Issue of Political and Social Integration on Europe’s Margins. It brings together theorists and practitioners of various profiles, mostly participants in exhibitions and symposia held as part of the project. The book will be presented in Booksa by the curators of MMSU, also the authors of the texts Sabina Salamon and Ksenija Orelj and the leader of the project Risk Change in Croatia, Marina Tkalčić, together with designers Marino Krstačić-Furić and Ana Tomić.
