Krzysztof Gutfranski – solo residency within the residential programme Dogs Are Barking, Caravans Are Passing Through (2020) – research about tempo-spatial cultural dynamics in Rijeka.

Krzysztof Gutfranski, curator and artist, dealt with tempo-spatial dynamics in the context of contemporary art and the issue of acceleration during his residency in Rijeka, using, among other things, the phrase torpedo as a connotation of instant acceleration. Through his research of the local and national contemporary art scene, K. Gutfranski questioned the relationship between acceleration in matters of art production and the development of artistic concepts and the scene, and tried to counterpolize the situation on the art scene today and what is historically relevant.

Combining elements of scientific heritage, advertising, speculative and artistic research, Gutfranski tried to create a specific imprint of Rijeka as a port and coastal city, and a ‘sense of language’ that contains both a poetic and a social character to emphasize the possibility of using a language free of ideology. Gutfranski also researched political toponyms, the periphery of Rijeka’s position and collected some stories from various actors – from researchers, artists, sociologists, architects to intentional citizens in order to collect starting material on the basis of which he will continue his ongoing research in the context of tempo-spatial cultural dynamics.
