Open Call for contributions for the symposium Lives on the Move – Conditions in the Altered State of Borders
5.1.2018
MMSU / Krešimirova 26c, 51000 Rijeka

which will be held on the 20th February 2018, at the Museum, as the program accompanying Black Disguises exhibition, the second part of the EU project Risk Change.

Among the key issues of the symposium are limitations on today’s mobility. Practitioners and theoreticians within different fields are invited to held presentations (up to 30 minutes) that refer to the extremes of modern society. One the one side – movability, mobility and intercultural cooperation, on the other – border control, exile and exclusion. By reflecting on the relationships of social politics, cultural practices and migration processes, the presentations should confirm migrations as a general principle, exploring their real and fictional possibilities outside the scope of the given borders. The symposium thematises migrations as a collective phenomenon, dealing with their causes, consequences and interrelated social and cultural politics. It draws attention to the risks of change and describes the (im)possibilities of finding one’s way in the situations of poor security, disorientation and a desperate struggle for optimism and togetherness in the times of building walls.

The public invitation is open until 20th January 2018. The contributions will be chosen by MMSU curators Ksenija Orelj, Sabina Salamon, Nataša Šuković and Marina Tkalčić.

Applications should contain:

  • name, surname, address, telephone number and e-mail address; CV
  • a summary and short description of the presentation (around 3000 words)

Notes for applicants:
