Simon Macuh: Participatory Community Radio with Migrants
14 – 16.11. 2017
ACE KIBLA / Kiblix 2017
At the workshop we will be collecting sound narratives on the topic of migrations. The main source will be our own stories – migration is movement, and we are all constantly moving. In the first part of the workshop, the materials will be recorded and edited, as we get to know each other and the processes involved in our work. The second part is field work: finding actual migrants to help us contribute to the project. We will put an emphasis on defining what it means to be a “migrant”. The collected materials will be used as part of our radio-based installation at the Kiblix 2017 festival. Part of our research will deal with the question of how to incorporate matter into the given form.
Simon Macuh has been self-employed in the field of culture as a performer, sculptor and intermedia artist since 2011. He explores the form and content of social relations by interacting with different social groups or individuals. This process can be perceived as the building a social sculpture, which occasionally becomes manifested in public or private spaces. This connection between life and work is recorded in a variety of media that he uses to experiment. Macuh is also a part of several art collectives: the art group SIVA (together with Iva Tratnik and Andreja Džakušič) explores phenomena of the everyday life; he is also a member of a group of artists who regularly perform public readings. Since 2009, he has been co-creating the Vstop prost / Admission Free annual festival in Celje. He has been a member of the KROG association for community art and space since 2014, of the Association of Fine Artists of Celje (DLUC) since 2008, and of the Slovenian Society of Aesthetics since 1995.
