Within the exhibition Migrants of Mental Spaces, Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina organized the lecture of the artist Vladimir Frelih, one of the participants at the exhibition. The main theme of the lecture was migration in the context of the Academy of Arts in Dusseldorf, trough his own experience.

’’Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf is a phenomenon which contributed, among all, to stimulating conections between, for example Joseph Beuys, Marina Abramović, Ulay, Ješa Denegri, Biljana Tomić and Student Cultural Center in Belgrade. Relations between different artistic scenes, places of educations, exhibition spaces and individuals started in 70’s in twentith century and continued throughout decades, enabling new experiences and exchanges, even in the period of social-political tightness and xenophobia of society in the 90’s.

Some of the artist that went trough practice in Academy of Fine Arts in Dusseldorf  or collaborated with it, live today in the countries where they were born, transfering the knowledge, that they learned from their professors, on the local scene, while the other continued their journey and these days live and work in different parts of the world, connecting mental spaces that influenced them.’’ (Sanja Kojić Mladenov)

BIO:

Vladimir Frelih was born in Osijek. He graduated on Kunstakademie Dűsseldorf as Master of Arts. He’s works are are conceptual and multimedial which are often in th edge of media, where the imbalance and deviations of the media happens. He is a professor on Academy of Arts in Osijek since 2007. on the department od multimedia, and a guest professor on Academy of Arts in Novi Sad since 2010. For the exhibition Migrants of Mental Spaces, he conceived and designed new object/sculpture called Black Raw Memory composed of discarded or unnecessary things he found in situ.
